What’s Smarter?….
There was a time when failing to parallel park could cost you your driver’s license, as the writer of the post found out when she failed her first ever driver’s test because she ran over imaginary people, walking down an imaginary sidewalk while trying to parallel park.
These days if you can afford a new Lexus, you don’t have to worry about parallel parking, and the potential failed driving test. That is, if you would dare give your expensive Lexus’ keys to a driving noob.
But what’s smarter, a car that can parallel park on its own or a cheaper car? A new Hyundai ad has some wisdom (or is it smartness…) for us:

And here’s the video of the self-parking (with assistance) Lexus:

I can totally see the headlines: “Road rage reaches new heights as Lexus owner gets tires shot out while trying to calibrate parking assist”. I don’t know why, seeing as how I love computers and technology, but watching that video made me angry. Probably the smug, elitist attitude of the passengers — but even more because it just seemed to make people look like technology sycophants.
Thanks for sharing, Mana. I’ll stick with a Subaru. Or better yet, the bus.
Well it makes me mad too, because I am a parallel parking ace now… after failing my driver’s test years back. Living in Chicago and parking on the street might have something to do with my enhanced skills as well. But how could we not have had a vision of the future, and know that learning how to parallel park would be obsolete someday?
Some days I park with only inches between my car and the ones in front and behind, and I get out of the car, and check out my great parking job and then I go tell my neighbors and take pictures too! I mean seriously, what’s more hot–a good looking chick parallel parking a car, or a self-parking Lexus? Seriously!
You should know this story is not true, because if it were, I would have posted a picture of my car parked within inches of other cars as proof… sigh…
